started talking to the parts counter guy. Asked him if the 60U00 was going to be discontinued for the 50Y00 and he said as far as he had heard they were not going to discontinue the 60U00. But trusting YugoBernie here, I puchased 10 anyway. He also went on to say that it really doesn't matter as long as it is OEM. As he put it, "its just paper." To illustrate his point he showed me how on the new 350z and Pathfinder (same filter) the filter is literally about 1/3 the size of ours. The Parts Counter guy thought that in the future oil filters would not even be around anymore and instead they would be replaced with like a strainer in the system that could be cleaned everytime you changed the oil instead of replaced. So I told my dad what he had said and my dad agreed and went on to say that back in the day, on his VW Beetle, there were no filters, but a strainer like this guy had said, to get the big stuff out and if you changed your oil regularly it wouldn't be a problem. Also we started thinking that this could be the case since new cars are so much cleaner than the old cars that there is not the worry of getting as much crap in your motor to make it dirty. So anyway, just my days thoughts and events. I still purchased the filters, but I don't think its life threatening (to your Z) for the rest of you to do it. Just my thoughts.
